Nutritional & Metabolic TeleMedicine Association

John Vlok Dommisse MD, putting out his supplements for the week, July 2007

Introduction

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
~ I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
~ Robert Frost: 'The Road Not Taken'

"I will not follow where the path may lead,
but I will go where there is no path,
and I will leave a trail." ~ Muriel Strade

This is the highest-ranked nutritional and metabolic telemedicine website on the entire internet. It is also "Best on Web" on several search engines in certain medical diagnostic and treatment categories, e.g., Optimal treatment of [all forms and grades of] Hypothyroidism; Non-thyroidal-illness Hypothyroidism; Natural Treatment for Hypothyroidism, Depression and Bipolar Disorders; Natural Medicine Letter; Metabolic practitioners; Nutritional practitioners; Vitamin B12 Deficiency diagnosis; Vitamin B12 Deficiency, Optimal Hypothyroidism Treatment, Sensitive Hypothyroidism Diagnosis; etc., etc., etc.. This practice and this website are owned and directed by John V Dommisse MD, MBChB(CapeTown), FRCP(Canada), since 1977 a nutritional medicine practitioner (for which there is no board certification available) and a psychiatrist (for which he is Canadian-board-certified, recognized in AZ, VA and several other states, since 1976). He possesses a full armamentarium of scientific nutritional, natural-hormonal, enzymatic, immune-boosting, anti-candida, food-sensitivity and numerous other blood-testing-verified approaches that have produced outstanding outcomes in almost all the patients who have consulted him, especially since 1989 when his approach to all forms and grades of Hypothyroidism was added to previous approaches. You may not be aware that, as reported in numerous articles in mainline/ establishment medical journals, nutritional medicine is much more successful and effective in chronic diseases than standard/ conventional medicine is. e.g., Here are some extracts from a Reuters report in November 2002: "A distinguished lecture on global issues in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) was given at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by Harvard professor and CAM researcher Prof. Arthur Kleinman MD on November 7, 2002. Dr Kleinman discussed the immense influence of CAM on current medical practices around the world and pointed to problems and areas that needed thoughtful consideration and more research. He included the following points: * In the U.S., health care is a "dysfunctional system", with 40 million people uninsured. The enormous influence of medical companies threatens the biomedical (allopathic) concept of objective standards of care and mainstream medicine's traditional ethical standards. * In the United States, distrust of allopathic biomedicine is growing. Survey after survey is documenting patient mistrust of biomedical practitioners and HMO's. * Surveys also show that CAM practitioners are outside this U.S. arc of distrust: "You do not find the same ... level of complaints, [because CAM practitioners take the] time to listen [and are] more effectively engaged ... This is a tremendous challenge to the biomedicine of our time: How to re-engage the moral core of care, which seems to [be done effectively by current] practitioners of CAM." * CAM products (dietary supplements) are in a business boom worldwide. Kleinman concluded it is "increasingly recognized that mainstream medicine, that is, biomedicine, is in deep trouble in the United States. There are major financial troubles; we can't control costs. There are serious questions as to whether the great focus on efficiency has limited quality of care. There is a profound mistrust of practitioners, reflected in the large number of lawsuits, and patient 'shopping' for health care ... ". However, he continued, on the CAM side we see a surprising contrast ... We see relatively few lawsuits, and patient surveys tend to be positive. [End of Prof. Kleinman's remarks.] Many practitioners of the purely allopathic model of health care are totally unaware of these differences, to the extent that they are not even able to imagine the outcomes that are regularly achieved by integrative practitioners like Jonathan Wright MD (https://www.agora-inc.com/reports/NAH/W6NHD827/); Alan Gaby MD; UCSF assistant clinical professor Carol Jessop MD; and many others, including myself.

The most dramatic 'rescues' of patients, from chronic depression and bipolar disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, early Alzheimer's dementia, atherosclerotic heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and many other conditions, have been achieved by identifying and optimally treating vitamin B12 and other nutritional, enzymatic, and immune system deficiencies, and all types and grades of hypothyroidism, all conditions that are grossly under-diagnosed and undertreated, at least in the US, if not globally. These are also the subjects best covered by my publications. Actual case reports are described in my semi-annual 'Natural Medicine Letter', which is for sale from the end of this website (the first one, much shorter than the rest, is a free download). My new copyrighted scientific paper on my world-renowned 'underground' approach to hypothyroidism is now available in abstract form on this website, and in full form as Natural Medicine Letter Vol.4, Issue 2, March 2000). The chronic physical and mental conditions that have been found to respond outstandingly well to this approach include (but are not limited to):

  • Depression and moodswing disorders (>95% success rate since 1981)
  • Fatigue (>90%), CFIDS (>65%), and immune weakness
  • Hypothyroidism (underactive T4 and T3 thyroid hormones)
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • PMS, and menopausal and andropausal syndromes
  • High homocysteine, C-reactive protein, cholesterol/ Low 'good-cholesterol' (HDL) levels
  • Prevention and amelioration of cancer and cardiovascular disease - only one heart attack and 5 cancers have arisen in his thousands of mostly middle-aged and elderly patients since 1994; and NO strokes!
  • Insomnia and hypersomnia
  • Memory-loss/ early 'Alzheimer's'
  • Low sex-drive/ Erectile dysfunction
  • Pain and fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis and osteoporosis
  • Low and high blood sugar
  • High and low blood pressure
  • Eating and weight disorders
  • Anxiety and panic disorders
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Food and sinus allergies
  • ADHD, 'restless legs', and tardive dyskinesia

Dr Dommisse is strongly opposed to the prescribing of habit-forming tranquilizers and sleep meds, since there are several non-habit-forming ones available. Here is his philosophy of life and good health: Work as hard and as smart as you can. Play as often as you can. Get enough rest, exercise and relaxation. Eat and drink nutritious foods, in moderate amounts, and take multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplements (since hardly anyone can obtain all these in sufficient amounts these days, even in the best of diets, because of the depletion of the top soil by aggressive and unreplenishing farming methods, and the pollution of meat and fish by environmental factors and by antibiotics, chemicals and hormones). Avoid drugs (especially habit-forming prescription drugs like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Ambien, Lunesta, etc.), smoking, and excess alcohol, coffee, tea, sodas, chocolate and other candies, cakes, cookies, trans-fats, all added sugars, and ice cream with sugar. Have a sense of meaning/ purpose (spirituality, religion or philosophy) in life, of self respect, and of humor! Enjoy the company of others, respect their differences, and treat others as they would like to be treated ('the Platinum Rule').
The 'Letters' are actually detailed case studies, articles and commentaries. The copyrighted scientific paper on my world-renowned 'underground' approach to hypothyroidism is now available in abstract form on this website, and is for sale in the full version as The Natural Medicine Letter Vol.4. No.2, March, 2000.
